A severe case of start-itis!

I've got a problem.

I just can't seem to focus on making one thing... or even just two or three things!

I have countless projects on the go and here is a sneaky peek at what I've been working on... these photo's don't include all of the things that I have been making for the Advent swap though, as obviously I don't want to ruin the surprise for Jo before she receives her parcel!

So to start, a pretty pink cardigan for Rose... It's knitted on a circular needle but I got stuck on one bit of the pattern, I then just got frustrated and moved onto the next thing!

I'm knitting myself a scarf/shawl that I came across on Ravelry, it's quite a popular pattern and is lovely to knit up. I had to frog my first attempt after I had got almost half way as I realised the two balls of yarn I had got through were a different dye-lot and I only noticed when I saw it in a different light. I could have carried on, but I know I wouldn't have been happy with it. So I've decided to knit a pair of handwarmers with that different ball of yarn as the slight colour difference wont be as noticeable. I won't be making that mistake again!!

This is Rose's quilt-in-the-making... maybe I'll manage to get it finished to give to her for her first Christmas, I hope so anyway! I reallllyyy love the fabric from the Jellyroll it's made from, I have enough fabric left over tat I could make something to match, maybe a wall hanging or something...hhmmm...

A minty green beret, I began crocheting this when we were on holiday but then it got a little forgotten about when we got home. I only remembered it when I was in the process of organising my craft shelves that are completely crammed full of things at the moment.

This is the beginning's of a baby blanket for Rose, again another pattern I found through Ravelry.

Well there you go, an insight into what I have got going at the moment. Of course there are many other forlorn projects on my shelves, I don't know why I can't just finish things before starting something else!

I really love making things but to be honest, I do find it all rather stressful... there are just So many things I want to make but I just don't have the time to do it all. That probably sounds completely stupid as there are much more important things to be worrying about, but I just wish I could organise my time better to get thing's done. I see other people on their blogs who are always producing lovely things and I know I shouldn't do but I get a little jealous that they have the patience to stick with whatever their making and actually finish it!

  1. Don't fight it. I gave in a long time ago and it doesn't help to stress over it... then it's no fun! Some people do one thing at a time, that's not how you roll! Sometimes the process(starting something new) is more fun than the end result. My advice... Keep going, it all gets done eventually! xx

  2. It's great you have so many projects on the go, as long as you do get round to finishing them all! I'm the opposite in that I'm very strict with myself (usually) and try and make myself finish something before I start on the next... Doesn't always work though! hehe xx

  3. I think you've certainly summed up me, if not a large proportion who read your blog. All your projects look beautiful.

My problem? I look at someone else's blog....like yours for instance, and I see all these beautiful projects I'm not doing and then I become even more fed up!

Your projects will all work out in their own time, don't let them become a stress as that's not what it's all about.

    Happy knitting and sewing!

  4. Ashley I totally agree with what you say about so many things to make so little time!
You have some really lovely projects on the go.

  5. Look at it this way, you come from a line of starters so really you don't stand a chance. And don't they say variety is the spice of life.

I think i could beat you on starting things before getting stuff done xx

  6. I'm exactly the same - there are so many things I want to make but not enough time. I spend too much time looking at pretty things to make and not enough time actually doing them - at least you get them started!

I love the beret - where is the pattern from and what stitch are you using there? It's so lovely and chunky. I think you should get that finished first, it will look fab on you.

  7. I know just how you feel, however you have more on the make than me, I just have a ripple blanket, but after seeing that bobble blanket I want to make that now, and Rose's little cardi is so sweet, I would like to make that as well. I have a HUGE folder full of patterns on my desktop just waiting for me to find the time to make them all. At the moment work is taking priority, sometimes I wish I didn't have to work, but we do need to eat and pay bills.

  8. I know exactly how you feel. This is exactly where I was a couple of months ago until a few weeks ago I thought sod it, I wasn;t really happy with all that i had started so those I wasn't happy with I scrapped. I am now focusing on one thing at a time and feel so much better for it. I am now actually enjoying my crafts again rather then finding them a chore. I hope you find yourself again soon and remember that whatever you decide to do will be the right decision for you x x x x

  9. I agree with Faith...funny how we all have so much in common... I wonder if ANY crafters are disciplined enough to start just one project and actually FINISH it before moving onto the next! I have never managed it yet :)x

  10. Being a Mum is hard as you really have to learn to put your own wants at the back of the list don't you :-( I learnt never to have a list of things to do as it just makes me annoyed when I don't get to do them. Go with the flow, finish each item in turn so you feel like you have achieved something. Remember that yes you read a blog showing items finished but when did they get finished ? Sometimes I blog about something I have made that was a few weeks back as I haven't had time to blog about it :-) It was probably the only thing I made in that week and then I finish other things other weeks so blog about them all at once :-) x

  11. No, don't fret - we've all got (shamefully hidden!) half-finished projects. Currently I have a hexagonal quilt, a dress for me, 2 roman blinds, some wristwarmers...shall I go on?!? Plus a 'to do' list of projects. Eeeek!

  12. All those things are lovely, especially the quilt for Rose. I'm the same with starting things and not finishing them, depends what mood i am in as to which one i pick up and do a little more of. They wil all work out in their own good time, never fear! This is my first visit to your blog, you have made some gorgeous things, and little Rose is such a sweetie! K xx

  13. Well, i think Lettie said it right, you do come from a whole line of starters, but it is always nice to have a project on the go, the excitement of searching for all the things that you need first is the best feeling in the world. I love the picture of Rose's new quilt it is so so pretty
    Love you lots

  14. I know exactly how you feel, I think all us crafters do! I have so many unfinished projects and a huge list of ones I want to start, but I think we all have to accept that eventually they will be finished and enjoy the making rather than worry about the finishing! xxx
